In the neighborhood where I grow up, there was a construction worker living that had a Range Rover. He impressed me by going straight up the dike, with this impressive car.
As my parents where driving Simca's, the next impressive car was the Simca Rancho Matra.
A great looking car, and there was some desire that my dad would buy one.
Totally no realizing that this car with front-wheel drive, and just a 1400cc engine wasn't a match for a Range Rover.
It must have been around 1990. My uncle was in horse riding, and many times I went with him. One of his friends had a red Land Rover Defender with a V8 in it and 'many' chairs. The details I don't know anymore, 110 or 130, if I need to guess, I would go for the 130, as it had many chairs.
One day I had the change to drive this car, so the owner could make some sales calls. It as very noisy drive, but I still remember it. My first great experiemce with a defemder.
In 2009 we did our first off-road experience, in Botswana, Kalahari dessert, in a Toyota Hilux. That was a lot of fun, and specially interesting way to explore the world.
A lot of cars passed my life, where the first one owned by me was a Peugeot 505, 9 years old, and chocolade brown.
After this we went from the 405 to the 106, 206 and 307. Great cars, but no 4 wheel drive.
Working in Germany for 1.5 years, I got a Volvo V50, another great car, and interestingly with a Peugeot diesel engine. The fundamentals were put in place for my first 4 wheel drive car, a Volvo XC60. A car that is still standing on the drive way after 15 years.
